With so much for new employees to learn about their jobs, sometimes onboarding becomes focused exclusively on filling administrative checkboxes. While they are certainly important, the bigger picture of the company, it's vision, mission, marketplace positioning, values, etc. can get shortchanged. When that happens, employees aren't as engaged and excited as they should be about their new company.

Overview

Embark™ is a classroom-based learning experience designed to welcome employees into their new organization. With an engaging, game-based framework, Embark provides a setting for organization-specific content that introduces employees to the organization’s mission, vision, values, and culture. Further topics dive into how the business operates, its clients, processes, and strategies for success. As a day-one activity, employees feel immediately connected, not just oriented.

The Experience

Working together in small teams around a colorful game board with various game pieces, new employees discover information about their new organization. They bring their own unique experiences and points of view to the table, enriching team dialogue with diverse thoughts and perspectives. Friendly competition among teams keeps the energy high, and a facilitator provides context and leads large group discussions.

Customization

Embark is a customizable framework, providing a time-tested pattern for game mechanics and the opportunity for all program content to be specific to the organization. Working with Paradigm Learning’s instructional designers, organizations can create their own version of Embark.

Rounds of the game can be interspersed with visits from guest speakers, other necessary day-one information (IT, HR, etc.), and videos.

Facilitation

Embark is a self-driving solution. Once implemented, it requires little facilitation. Participation is driven by cards, break-out sessions and group activities.
